Tile floors are common and can be difficult to remove if you don’t have the knowledge of how to do so and the professional tools to safely complete the task. Depending on the type of tile and the setting, Tile floor demolition or tile floor removal can be done with a range of tools from sledgehammers to professional electric demolition hammers. Some people think its as easy as removing the tile and that’s it, but actually once the tile is removed you are left with either a “Mud-Set” which is a 3/4″ Portland cement and mason sand sub-surface for ceramic, porcelain & natural stone residential tile flooring or a “Thinset” which is an 3/8″ thick or less adhesive mortar made of cement, fine sand and a water retaining agent such as an alkyl derivative of cellulose. It is usually used to attach tile or stone residential tile flooring to surfaces such as cement or concrete.
